Ellen von Unwerth is the mistress of the grainy high contrast fashion fantasy world. I get the feeling from her work that her shoots must be lots of fun. That the stage is set for a purile playspace of dress up, and the photographs document it as an afterthought. She sells her stories well with sugar coated romance infused with an element of innocent alluringness. In some sense I see her as the modern day Irina.
