years change, but the style remains

In this photo from the new book of Helmut Newton's Polaroid's one can see that recent fashion trends are certainly nothing new. Recent articles have indicated a penchant for shiny black leather and such date back to the 1880's, but I wonder how far in history one can trace black leather and studs and so forth.
